Relaxation Massage- A full body massage tailored to the client’s preferences and needs. I offer a combination of Swedish and Shiatsu techniques, including the use of Acupressure Points when applicable. Deep Tissue work can be incorporated in a Relaxation Massage, or to address specific problem areas. Let your therapist know if you prefer deep tissue massages.

Swedish Modalities- These techniques consist of long gliding strokes, kneading and lifting of the muscles, compression and tapping. Benefits include:

-Increased circulation

-softening of fascia (the thin fibrous tissue, encapsulating all muscles, which can get bound up)

-decreases muscle tension and adhesions

-tones muscles

-stimulates nervous system, producing overall relaxation of body and mind.

Shiatsu Modalities- These techniques consist of stretching, joint mobilization, softening of tissue and muscles, as well as point work therapy of the Meridian System. Benefits include:

-full body relaxation

-stimulation of healing response

-reduces stress

-balances the body’s energy- invigorating

Acupressure Point Therapy (Point Work)- Addresses pain and dysfunction of the body, due to energy deficiency within the Meridian System.

Traditional Chinese Medicine teaches that the Meridian System is an inner connecting pathway in which energy flows through the body. Energy is a natural factor to living, just like oxygen.

When pathways for energy become obstructed, energy becomes deficient, resulting in pain and imbalance to other systems in the body.

Light pressure is applied in a sequential manner to relieve obstructions.  It is slow and intentional work which eases pain, balances energy, and rejuvenates systems and functions of the body.

Deep Tissue Technique- Use of more focused pressure for the purpose of breaking up muscle adhesions and decreasing pain. This focused work promotes emotional release, increases energy and increases range of motion of the joints.

Myofascial Therapy Session

60 minutes: $80
90 minutes: $110
120 minutes: $130

Myofascial Therapy Session-

This is slow, concentrated and intuitive work to the muscle fascia. The purpose of this therapy is to address pain, postural defects and limited ranges of motion due to disorder and tension in the fascia. Defective fascia can result of surgeries, injuries, overuse or repetitive strain of a muscle, underuse (atrophy) of a muscle, stress, disease, and even congenital issues. Defective fascia presents as pain, tension and adhesions. Sustained pressure is applied to these areas to restore the muscle tissues elasticity and fluidity.

Benefits of Myofascial therapy include:

-decreased pain

-improved posture

-increased range of motion in the joint

What can be expected during your MFT Session?

1. Assessment

You will be asked multiple questions pertaining to the pain/ tension you are experiencing. A brief medical history will be gathered. We will discuss what sort of work and hobbies you engage in regularly.

Then you will be asked to perform several exercises to determine join restrictions.

2. Create Strategy

Therapist will determine which muscles need work. A plan will be devised based on specific needs.

3. Body Work

Therapist will give concentrated and intuitive attention to the bounded muscle fascia. Sustained pressure and massage techniques are applied to these areas to restore the muscle tissues elasticity and fluidity.

4. Reassessment

Range of motion assessment will be repeated. A plan for future therapy will be discussed.

Fascia 101-

Fascia is a type of connective tissue found throughout our entire body. It covers everything, from muscles, bones, joints, tendons, ligaments, organs and even nerves and cells. The fascia’s purpose is to protect internal structures, reduce friction, and transmit and adapt to mechanical stress. Basically, it takes the punch first and begins constructing another way to get the job done. But in “taking the punch” this connective tissue suffers some sort of damage. Damage does not always appear right away. This is why an injury in our youth can suddenly present later in life with debilitating effects. Damaged fascia results in adhesions (tight, knotted areas). Damaged fascia tightens across whatever it encapsulates, which causes mobility limitations and pain. Defective fascia left untreated can cause trigger points. Trigger points refer pain to other areas, not even associated with the original place of injury.

The purpose of Myofascial Therapy is to identify where muscle fascia is bound up, release the tension and help the body restore normal function.
